The village has deep roots in local culture and a wide variety of folklore. It’s located in the high part of Urdaibai, 7 km from Gernika-Lumo. It’s made up of four neighbourhoods. They are Elejalde, Albiz, Marmiz and Olabe and their beautiful natural setting provides numerous itineraries for walking or biking. Just a few kilometres from the city centre you can find the so-called Balcony of Bizkaia.
September is usually a good time to visit the town. That is when the popular poultry fair is organised and the famous Mendi Martxa (mountain hike) is held. The town celebrates the festivals for its patron saint San Miguel on 29 September.
