Nabarniz
It is situated at the feet of Mount Iluntzar and with the average latitude of the municipality being 1,181 ft, it is the highest in the county. The neighbourhoods began taking shape from the 10th century and, as we now know them, each one around its own hermitage: Ikazurieta neighbourhood with its San Cristobal Hermitage; Uribarri neighbourhood around the San Miguel Hermitage; San Gregorio Hermitage in the Merika neighbourhood; Santiago Hermitage in the Lekerika neighbourhood; and finally, the Elexalde neighbourhood around Santa María de Gorostiza Church. Gastronomy also marks the history of Nabarniz, with its speciality of kidney beans and, above all, vegetable stew. Enjoy these specialities in the town’s restaurants.
