SANTIMAMIÑE

This is the most important archaeological site in the Basque Country and a World Heritage Site. A cave that preserves remains of human settlements from over 14,000 years ago, around 50 cave paintings and numerous stalactite and stalagmite formations of great beauty.

The cave is located on the south side of Mount Ereñozar, dominating an extensive landscape with different ecosystems: Cantabrian holm oak, countryside, estuary, etc. The first archaeological digs were carried out between 1918 and 1962, and since 2004, a multidisciplinary team has been working on a new excavation phase.

While it is not possible to physically enter the cave, a 3D guided visit allows you to get to know it in its entirety in an absolutely realistic way, so as not to damage the cavern and keep enjoying this ancient site.
