MUNDAKA CARNIVAL
This is an amazing carnival plan for people who want to experience something truly unique, original and fun first hand.
The streets are filled with unique characters, all of them dressed almost alike. The men, the “Atorrak”, wearing two skirts, one over their shoulders and another at the waist, come out in the morning, smocks, white trousers, and a padded cover like a hood and a colourful handkerchief.
Guitars, mandolins, banjos, tambourines, accordions, and violins accompany the singing in a colourful street procession that starts in the village square.
The women’s, or “Lamiak”, turn comes in the afternoon. They all wear black from head to toe and their faces are painted white, their eyes are black, and their cheeks and lips are red. They wear long wool wigs and handkerchiefs of bright colours on their heads.
Everything is ready for their street procession where songs and dances are felt through the whole village of Mundaka.
