On the banks of the Mundaka estuary, the beautiful setting of this town makes it a perfect destination for trekking or just spending a nice day at the beach.

This small town has the honour of being a pioneer in tourism in the area and in Biscay, thanks to the large spa hotel that was at one time on Txatxarramendi island. It’s well worth going by train to enjoy the beautiful route and spending the day seeing the Txatxarramendi botanical park, taking a boat trip, or visiting the Toña beach.

Fun Fact: Sukarrieta is the only town in Urdaibai that has territory on both sides of the estuary. On the right bank you can find the Santa Maria de Legendika church (Kanala), and its pretty cemetery with views of the marsh.
