Ekoetxea Urdaibai. Biodiversity Centre
Ekoetxea Urdaibai is a centre for highlighting biodiversity, and with that objective and through exhibitions and educational activities, it informs and educates visitors on the importance of biological diversity and promotes people being involved.
It is located in Busturia, in the middle of Urdabai Biosphere Reserve, one of the places with the largest number of ecosystems in the Basque Country, and occupies a unique building known as the Clock Tower, dating back to 1851. At Ekoetxea Urdaibai you will find endless activities for everyone, but with a special focus on kids, and all aimed at fostering knowledge of and respect towards biodiversity.

URDAIBAI BIOSPHERE RESERV
La ubicación de Ekoetxea en Urdaibai no es casualidad. Este territorio fue declarado Reserva de la Biosfera por la UNESCO en 1984, con el objetivo de conservar sus sistemas naturales, su diversidad biológica y para velar por el uso racional de sus recursos. Y desde 1989, la Reserva de la Biosfera de Urdaibai tiene un régimen jurídico especial que regula toda la actividad que aquí se desarrolla. Porque Urdaibai, tiene también como especificad, que es un espacio habitado por el ser humano.
Ocupa una superficie de 23.000 hectáreas de 22 municipios, donde se dan cita gran diversidad de ecosistemas y paisajes, destacando entre otros los encinares cantábricos, la campiña atlántica, el litoral costero y las marismas. También constituye la zona húmeda más importante de Euskadi, elegida como lugar de reposo e invernada de muchas especies de aves.
